At Northwest Pool Covers, we understand that the top priority of pool owners is the safety and protection of children and pets. Safety covers are key in preventing drowning.

Accidental drowning is the leading cause of death, after congenital anomalies, among children aged 1-4. For children aged 1-14, it is the second leading cause of unintentional injury deaths, after motor vehicle crashes. (These statistics are from the CDC, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.) In an attempt to improve safety standards for pool owners and manufacturers, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) outlined the need for a “layer of protection” provided by safety covers (as well as fencing and alarms). A closed cover acts as a horizontal fence, sealing off the water from children and animals.
